Provided with beautiful 2” thick, 18” wide slabs of clear Black Walnut, I was asked by a client to craft a sturdy platform for his turntable and amplifier. Thick Maple legs were crafted to hold the Walnut slabs, while Cherry was chosen by the client to be used as an accent piece below the main shelf and as dowels to connect the shelves to the uprights. Finished with an oil/varnish blend to highlight the grain while providing a bit of protection from scratches, the piece was hand-rubbed to a satin sheen. Large, 2” adjustable rubber feet provide an extra layer of sound insulation while also protecting the client’s floor from the sheet mass - the small stature belies the nearly 100 lbs of the piece.
